Activist Inspired by Daniel Quinn and Ishmael Publishes Book on Standing Up to World’s Biggest Polluters
Arwinder Kaur read Ishmael and was deeply affected by it. This led to a number of actions in her life.
- She was interviewed on a local program in Vancouver about Ishmael.
- She actively promoted the book’s use in colleges and universities.
- She wrote to Oprah Winfrey and sent Oprah a copy of the book. (Daniel Quinn eventually ended up appearing on Oprah’s show to discuss Ishmael after Oprah had the book recommended to her by a number of people.)
- More recently, Arwinder wrote to a local major bank, Vancity, encouraging them to implement an “eco-loan” program offering low-interest loans for electric cars. The bank met with her and took action on her idea.
Years ago, Arwinder sent a letter to Daniel Quinn expressing how reading Ishmael affected her and changed her life. Quinn then reached out to her, leading to a meeting between them.

In September 2021, Arwinder published a book called Living While Human. Daniel Quinn is featured in it and is given credit for motivating and inspiring her to become an ecological activist and write the book.
Arwinder explains:
“It is focused on what we can do locally and globally to take the biggest polluters to task – corporations, politicians and media, all working together to distract and deceive masses from knowing the truth.”
