| Friends of Ishmael Society School Essay Contest |
Introduce Daniel Quinn’s work, Systems Thinking, sustainability, and diversity to high school students, while encouraging critical thinking skills and creativity. |
Plan to hold initial contest during 2005 school year. |
Initiated by Board members and incorporating supporters, volunteers, judges, and funders from throughout the community of supportive individuals and organizations. |
30% of time in 2004 and 2005 will be devoted to this activity. Percentage will diminish subsequently once structure and administrative operations are established. |
Continued Maintenance and Upgrade of Website |
Continue providing current resources. Improve site with more user-friendly redesign, addition of database functionality, and implementation of interactive features. |

Provision of Grants |

Grants will be given at the discretion of the Board of Friends of Ishmael Society. |
Grant-giving will initially comprise only 5% of the organization's time, increasing to 15% in the long-term as funds allow. |
| Creation and Maintenance of Office/Conference Center |
Establish central institution for operations of Friends of Ishmael Society, which will also serve as a conference center, hosting events relating to Daniel Quinn's work, Systems Thinking, sustainability, and diversity. |
The creation of this center is a very long term goal and we do not anticipate beginning to focus on it for several years. |
The creation of this center will require the energies of all board members of the Friends of Ishmael Society, as well as widespread support from the Ishmael community and other interested individuals and organizations. |
No time will be devoted to this activity for several years, after which it will comprise an increasing percentage of the organization's time. |
